5 Career Clarity Questions to Help You Get Unstuck

You don’t need to have it all figured out.
Let’s just start with five questions.
Whether you’re fresh out of Uni or 15 years into your career, there comes a point where you feel stuck. The job that used to excite you now feels flat. You’re unsure what to do next but you’re also too busy (or tired) to figure it out.
That’s where coaching can help. But before you even get to that point, here’s a simple starting place: five clarity questions that I use with clients all the time.
Take 10 minutes. Reflect on your answers. See what comes up.
1. What’s working and what’s not?
Grab a pen and list out your week.
Which parts of your work/life feel energising? Which bits feel heavy, repetitive or draining?
Don’t overthink it. The answers are often right in front of us.
2. If I wasn’t worried about money, judgement or failure what would I try?
This question isn’t about quitting your job tomorrow. It’s about seeing what you really want before fear shuts it down.
What ideas would you explore if no one was watching?
3. What do I keep complaining about but not changing?
We all have our default rants: the manager who micromanages, the commute, the role that’s “fine but not fulfilling”.
Complaints point to clues. What needs to shift?
4. What do I actually want right now?
This isn’t about your forever plan. It’s about what you need next.
Do you want more challenge? More space? A new skill? Be honest even if the answer surprises you.
5. What would I do if I trusted myself more?
This one’s deeper. It’s the question behind the others.
Because when we start to trust ourselves, we stop outsourcing our choices to fear, pressure or other people’s timelines.
Ready to go deeper?
These questions are a starting point. But if you want support to figure out what’s next or how to actually move forward that’s where coaching can make all the difference.
